STEP INSIDE A THEATRE SCHOOL CLASS

Our Theatre School class is perfect for students aged 11 - 16 years with a show and share performance at the end of every term. The class encompasses dancing, drama and singing as well as fun games and exercises to improve confidence, speaking skills and focus. We don’t hold exams or auditions and so everyone at all levels can get stuck in.

We like to operate this class like a mini theatre company. Students have the opportunity to share their ideas and skills.
Our sessions start with a high energy warm up for bodies, voices & minds. This includes dance, song, creative drama games using lots of imagination, & focus exercises. The rest of the session is rehearsal time where we learn & rehearse pieces that we work towards showing at the end of term. As well as developing all areas of performing, our Theatre School class teaches technicality and works with the students to hone and improve their skills. We often finish the session with a focus/cool down game or a good old sing-song!

THE BENEFITS OF DRAMA FOR older CHILDREN

Whether your child has always loved drama and performing or perhaps this is a new hobby they would like to pursue, our Theatre School classes can benefit all ages and personality types!

  • CREATIVITY - We play games to warm up, to cool down, to build focus and to get in to character so often our students are developing “drama” skills without realising that they are learning. Drama gives children the chance to be silly or funny and use imagination to react to different imagined situations. Even the shyest students loose themselves in the fun and are sharing their wonderful ideas and imaginings in no time. Individuality is encouraged and students perform tasks, be that dancing, singing or creative role play in their own style.

  • CONFIDENCE - Whether your child has ambitions to be an actor or not, confidence is one of the best, transferrable assets that doing drama can bring. Young people thrive on routine and familiarity and coming to a regular class can build up their self esteem. We get to know our students and celebrate their individual milestones - whether that’s singing a solo in a show or speaking in front of the class and it’s always a pleasure to watch their confidence soar.

  • DISCIPLINE AND CONCENTRATION - Drama really is a group effort and so is great for teamwork, friendships and working together. These skills help to engage children with the task at hand and they learn social skills such as turn-taking, focus, active listening and encouraging their peers.
